Tie One On - the pocket

If you have been reading this blog for awhile, you know I am a procrastinator.  So, it should come as no surprise that I didn't start thinking about the May/June Tie One On theme, the pocket, until the calendar passed the 25th.  I have many ideas - there are so many things you can do with a pocket.  Alas, I am short on time.  And for once, I was going to let it go and not get all worked up completing a project at the last minute.

Then it dawned on me.  I already made three aprons this month that were all about pockets.

These vendor aprons went to Renegade with Jen, Aprill and Meg.  I sewed a cotton prints to cotton canvas right sides together on three sides.  I turned it right side out and folded one third of the rectangle over so the cotton print side would make a band across the canvas side.  I stitched it down along the sides and then stitched dividing lines to make three pockets on each.  I added a long skinny patchwork waistband to the top enclosing the raw edges and that was it.  Nothing fancy, but it fits the pocket theme.

Of course, I made these a few weeks ago and submitted them at the last minute.  Do you think I will ever learn?

Mail

I had a crazy busy day yesterday - the kind where you barely have time to eat.  Swim team practice, swim lessons, errands, sewing for deadlines, rush to the post office, shower, hair cuts for me and the girls...hectic, but in a good way.  So here is part one of my mail post, just a day later.

Kirsty is a gem.  I saw a photo of some plastic belt buckles that she thrifted over on flickr and wouldn't you know, she sent me the ones I like.

She also sent the fabric they are sitting on - so charming and well, green.  You know I love my greens.  These goodies have been in the house for awhile now and I have been remiss not to thank her sooner.  Thank you Kirsty!  I love them!  Some little things should be showing up for you soon.

Cristina and I had a little moo card swap.

She sent me an aqua tray cloth with beautiful edging.  I now have two aqua tray cloths, the other one from Kirsty.  Coincidence?  Hmmm.....one more and I'll have a collection.  There were the adorable moo cards with her gorgeous photos and some vintage sheeting scraps, too.  Perfect!  I have just the project in mind for these.  Thank you Cristina!  I adore what you sent - it really couldn't have been any better!

I sent Cristina a little something along with my moo cards.  There is a big story behind it so it'll have to wait for another day.  As will the other goodies I have received lately.  I told you - lucky me.

Girl time and more peonies

My parents are in town for a quick visit.  My mom and I spent yesterday doing girlie things with Jane and Kate.  Swim team practice (ok, not entirely girlie, but very important), out for lunch, some shopping, pedicures all around, more shopping and dinner at my brother's house.  All that fun is exhausting!

I woke yesterday morning to find random petals on the kitchen table.  I am afraid that these are the last of the peonies.  So sad!  I really will miss them.

Speaking of peonies, remember this photo?  Well, just take a look at this.  Pretty dang cool, if you ask me.  It makes me want to paint.

Back tomorrow with some good mail.....lucky me.

This tree grew in only six months

...or it took Kate six months to embroider this shirt.  You choose the title.

Tree_shirt_1_1

She started this embroidery project in January.  The drawing is her own - I used a transfer pencil to trace it and then ironed it on to the shirt.  She picked it up now and again over the course of six months - most often when I was embroidering something.  She did the trunk first, then the pink flower, then the "hair", as she calls it.  I did the face.

When we took the hoop off, it had a nice big ring around it.  Yep, a big white circle where the hoop was and dirt and food and finger marks everywhere else.  I popped in the wash after a liberal application of stain stick and - voila! - a perfectly white tee!  Well, a white tee with a super cute smiley tree worn by a very proud five year old.

That's my girl.

Meg sent me this amazing vintage blue dress for Kate.  When it arrived on Saturday, she immediately tried it on, then took it off because she didn't want to get it dirty.  It fits perfectly, has lots of twirl and made this little girls eyes light up like a Christmas tree.  She wore it to church yesterday - so stinkin' cute, I tell you.  Thank you so much Meg - she really loves it.

And would you believe this?

Jane came downstairs this morning wearing the shirt.  Yes, the one I made her.  I quickly grabbed the camera for documentation and she was happy to oblige her mom.  Hmmm...I am not sure what prompted it, but I am not complaining.  In fact, I see it as a sign.  I think it's going to be a good day.

Sharpies

40-ish sharpies (I think a few may be missing) in a red McCoy pot.   These are my markers.  Mine.  Needless to say, the girls get giddy when I share.  Happy Weekend folks!
