The auction went well. Really well. I'm in recovery mode. After spending a few hours setting up on Saturday morning, I logged a 2.5 hour nap in the afternoon. And today, I repeated that. I guess I really had no idea how tired I was! I plan on writing a post about all the projects, etc., later this week - I just can't wrap my head around everything right now. Soon. Pinky swear.

In the meantime, I'm giddy thinking about all the sewing I want to do. Close to first on my list is to finish Kate's single girl quilts. The tops have been finished for a long time, maybe even close to a year. I think the reason I haven't finished them yet is that I've been having an internal debate about what to back them with and exactly how I want to quilt them. The quilting part is pretty much decided and I've narrowed the back down to two options.

Options
Option 1:  Use the solid khaki, the same as the background fabric. The binding will also be this solid.  I like this option because I think it would make the patchwork part of the quilts sing. It seems a bit simpler than the print and maybe a bit cleaner?

Option 2: Use the pattern. It's a coordinting print from the same line as the patchwork rings, but it isn't included on the front. This seems a bit funner and younger, a little sassier, but also a smidge fussy.

Options 2

Either option could have a patchwork strip of the other prints, too.

Solid or Pattern? Which would you go with? Why?

Chop chop

The auction is tomorrow and if you would have asked me three days ago how I felt about it, I would have predicted that I'd be well finished by now. If you would have asked me two hours ago, you would have heard nothing but panic. And right now, a little less panic. There is still some work to do. This is how it goes. It will all get done, it will all be good, maybe even great, and I will rest on Sunday.

I had a haircut on the calendar for this morning and I did manage to squeeze that in. I've been dreaming about getting a summer cut once the weather gets warmer. I took a good long look in the mirror this morning and decided that my long-ish hair wasn't doing me any favors. In fact, it was weighing me down. I didn't really plan on cutting it until April, but when I sat in the stylist's chair this morning, on a whim I told her to chop it off.

Chop chop

Three to four inches shorter and I automatically felt lighter.  I'm so glad I did not wait for summer to get my summer cut.

I hope the weekend treats us all well. And that each of you has a moment to do something nice for yourself. I promise to take photos of all the auction projects I can to share next week. See you then.

Popping in to say hi

Auction

Hello from school auction art project headquarters. I am *this* close to being finished. The advent calendars need a dowel rod and ribbon for hanging and the play tents need their bamboo poles. I also have to pick up the 8th grade photography project and pop those into their frames. I'm almost finished clear coating the outdoor furniture and rain barrels at school - one more coat for each piece. Then, on Sunday, when it's all over I'm going to take a big, fat nap.

In the meantime, I'm thinking about dipping my toes back into the shop waters with just a few camera straps. Any color combination requests? I can't promise anything, but I'll definitely consider any ideas.

February 16

Reupholster Kate's headboards and make her bed skirts.

Finish the single girl quilts.

Make a shower curtain.

Layout the Liberty squares and then sew, sew, sew.

Finish that Elizabeth Zimmerman sweater. Wear it once before winter is over.

Put down the family room rug.

Make kitchen chair cushions.

Get the garden beds ready.

Do something about the grass.

Make bagels.

Clean out the freezer by using what's in there.

Work on my word.

Surprise someone, or a few people, with little gifts.

Write a letter.

Clean out the basement.

Buy some flowers or a flowering plant that Scout won't eat.

Repot the aloe.

Ride my bike. Alone. And with the family.

Read more books.

(Just a list of things I'd like to do when I have the time. Still working diligently on the auction projects....back here soon.)
